THE MOST INNOVATIVE OLYMPIC GAME TOKYO 2020
Next summer, from the 24th of July to 9th of August, Japan will host the Summer Olympic Games for the second time in their history. When we imagine Japan it is impossible not to think about the pioneering attitude towards technology and innovation that this country has and we are sure that they are not letting us down next summer!
“Be better, together
for the planet and the people”
Tokyo 2020 will hold a considerable amount of world records besides the sport part.
With temperatures reaching 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 degrees Celsius) and 80% humidity level, Tokyo 2020 will be the hottest Olympic game in history. (for more information about this topic you should check out this article: the Hottest Olympic game in History
Due to the serious pollution issues the country is facing, the plan is to promote and showcase to the world solution models in order to realize a sustainable society.
The plan is to use 100% renewable electricity to power the stadiums and the Olympic Village to move towards a Zero Carbon operation for the games, to reuse or recycle 99% of procured items and goods and to produce medals with recycled metals from small electronic devices contributed from people all over Japan. check out the Full Sustainability Plan
But maybe the most important innovation of the games will be the massive use of electric and self-driving cars around the city.
Toyota, a worldwide partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, has announced that 90% of the vehicles for the competition will be electrified and, with the partnership of Nissan, they are planning to release up to 100 self-driving cars that will be available to give pedestrians rides around the various Olympic venues. As you are reading this article tests are already beginning and will continue until 2022 with the goal of having self-driving cars available on the market by 2025.
Perhaps the biggest news is the operation of the E-Palette concept. In 2018 Toyota announced the E-Palette, a futurist concept of a 7 meters (23 feet) box purposely designed to carry people around the city for a mix of self-driving cars and sharing economy. Amazon or Pizza Hut may one day use the e-Palette for automated deliveries, while Uber envisions autonomous ride-sharing. Unfortunately, we will not see these vehicles running around the city but they will be used only in the Olympic Village to carry around athletes and staff.

We only have to wait a few months to witness the most innovative Olympic Games ever and we can’t wait for it!
